What a beautiful, heartwarming day on our campus! Our fields were filled with absolute joy, warm hugs, and giggles for our annual “Kindness Counts” Friendship Celebration!
Grounded deeply in our moral and social development curriculum, this special day taught our little stars that true strength lies in kindness. From spinning a giant web of verbal compliments to navigating cooperative teammate obstacles hand-in-hand, our learners discovered the magic of sharing, inclusion, and empathy. The highlight of the morning was seeing our children sit on picnic blankets, happily exchanging half their snacks and trading handmade friendship stars with one another. At Morning Star, we don’t just build clever minds; under our compassionate counseling and faith-based framework, we build kind hearts that will uplift the Bulawayo community for generations to come!
The Celebration Itinerary
1.08:30 AM — The Friendship Web Gathering:Opening Circle.
Children sit in a giant circle on the school lawns. Holding a ball of bright yarn, each learner rolls it across the circle to a peer while saying something kind (e.g., “Thank you for sharing the blocks with me yesterday”). By the end, a beautiful, visible “friendship web” connects everyone.
- ECD Focus (Social/Emotional): Practicing public compliments, building eye contact, and visually learning how our actions connect us all.
2.09:15 AM — Teamwork Over Competition Challenges:Cooperative Games.
Instead of traditional racing games, children participate in cooperative challenges where nobody loses and everyone must work together:
- The Giant Blanket Toss: The whole class holds a large sheet to keep a soft balloon bouncing in the air.
- The Help-a-Friend Relay: Running in pairs where one child must guide their blindfolded or hopping “best friend” safely across an obstacle course.
- ECD Focus (Physical/Social): Combining gross motor coordination with deep peer communication and trust.
3.10:30 AM — The Kindness Tree Crafting:Sensory Reflection.
Learners gather at outdoor craft tables to dip their fingers in colorful, child-safe paints. They place their thumbprints onto a large drawn canvas tree trunk, creating vibrant leaves. On each print, teachers write down a “kind deed” the child promised to do.
- ECD Focus (Fine Motor/Moral): Developing pincer grip strength while actively committing to helpful, pro-social behaviors.
4.12:15 PM — The Picnic & Friendship Token Exchange:Sharing Ceremony.Families are asked to pack double-snacks on this day. The children split into small sharing circles on picnic blankets to trade half of their treats with a friend. Learners also exchange a small, handmade “Friendship Token” (a decorated stone or paper star) made earlier in the week.
- ECD Focus (Moral Development): Overcoming natural early childhood possessive habits by experiencing the intrinsic joy of giving and sharing.
