“When I Grow Up” Career Day
Our campus was absolutely buzzing with pure ambition, inspiration, and adorable uniforms today for our annual “When I Grow Up” Career Day!
Anchored directly within our social and cognitive development curriculum, this special event turned our school into a vibrant playground of future possibilities. From watching our miniature pilots, doctors, and builders march proudly in the grand parade, to hearing real-world Bulawayo community heroes share how they help our city, our learners’ imaginations were truly set ablaze.
Our little stars spent the rest of the morning diagnosing teddy bears, building block skyscrapers, and exploring computer keyboards. At Morning Star, we believe that when you give children the space to dream big early in a secure, loving environment, you lay the foundation for them to become the exceptional leaders of tomorrow!
The Inspiring Itinerary
Children arrive proudly dressed in the uniforms of their dream careers (such as miniature Doctors, Pilots, Firefighters, Teachers, Police Officers, or Builders). The morning kicks off with a high-energy parade across the school lawns as children announce their professions.
- ECD Focus (Emotional/Social): Overcoming shyness, standing tall with confidence, and taking pride in a personal aspirational identity.
We welcome real community helpers from the local Bulawayo area (including a nurse, a local entrepreneur, a construction manager, and a security officer) to show-and-tell. They bring child-safe tools of their trade (like a stethoscope or a hard hat) and explain what they do in simple, magical ways.
- ECD Focus (Cognitive Thinking): Building logical mind-thinking associations between an adult, their uniform, and the specific tool they use to help society.
The school yard is divided into safe, imaginative roleplay zones where children take turns practicing professions:
- The Little Clinic: Listening to teddy bear heartbeats using toy stethoscopes.
- The Tech Hub: Typing letters and sorting colorful geometric patterns on computer keyboards.
- The Construction Yard: Building safe, giant block towers wearing plastic safety vests.
- ECD Focus (Fine Motor/Social): Enhancing hand-eye coordination and practicing cooperative turn-taking through imaginative play.
Mrs. Zulu gathers the learners into a final circle. Each child steps forward to receive a personalized “Future Leader Badge” matching their chosen career. The day wraps up with a collective cheer for our future doctors, builders, and stars!
