Up, Up and Away: Our Little Stars Visit BUQ Airport
Our vibrant Early Childhood Development (ECD) learners recently traded the classroom for the runways on an unforgettable educational excursion to Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ)!
Designed around our holistic curriculum, this hands-on adventure gave the children a thrilling look at the world of transportation and aviation. From watching massive airplanes on the runway to meeting friendly community helpers—including terminal security officers, airline crew, and our brave local airport firefighters—our learners expanded their minds, practiced their social greeting skills, and sparked massive dreams of flight. At Morning Star, we don’t just teach from books; we take hand-in-hand learning out into our country to mould confident, curious future leaders!
Curriculum Integration Breakdown
These are the Developmental Areaand what We Focus On During the Tour
Cognitive Development-Counting airplanes, identifying different colors of luggage, and understanding how a plane moves on land versus in the air.
Gross & Fine Motor Skills-Walking safely in pairs throughout the terminal lines, climbing safely into the transport bus, and drawing/coloring during the reflection picnic.
Social & Emotional Growth-Managing the sensory excitement of a loud, busy environment with a strong sense of personal security under teacher supervision.
Safety & Logistics Note for Parents & Teachers:
Uniforms: All Morning Star learners must wear their full, bright school uniforms and name tags for easy visibility.
Adult-to-Child Ratio: We maintain a strict ratio of 1 teacher/guardian for every 5 children to ensure absolute supervision and hand-in-hand safety across all airport zones.
Preparation: Parents are requested to pack a small water bottle and a sunhat for the outdoor portion of the tour.
